Despite snow, at least 2 Missouri House panels meeting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Snow has shut down most of Missouri's capital city and the state Legislature has cancelled its regular session. But at least a couple House committees plan to proceed anyway with hearings and votes on legislation.

The House Financial Institutions Committee was to hold public hearings Wednesday on several bills. One would provide a permanent authorization for the treasurer's linked-deposit program, which places money in banks so that they can make low-interest loans to certain businesses and farmers. Other bills could expand Missouri's tax-free, college-savings program and allow ATM fees to be charged to people with accounts in foreign countries.

The House Agri-Business Committee also was scheduled to vote on bills Wednesday.
