ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Police have identified two people who were killed when an SUV slammed into them while they were waiting to cross a busy St. Louis street.

The victims are identified as 27-year-old Marilyn Tabb and 52-year-old Charles Thomas, both of St. Louis.

Police say the two were crossing a street in the northern part of the city when they stopped half-way across to wait for oncoming traffic to pass. According to reports, without looking, the two backed into the lane behind them and into the path of an oncoming driver.

The 44-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was not charged. Officials say it's the fifth fatal accident in the area in the last three years.
