EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A tweaked plan to reshape the grounds of St. Louis' iconic Gateway Arch includes aerial gondolas to get visitors across the Mississippi River into neighboring Illinois.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the revised plans were to be unveiled Wednesday night in St. Louis.
New York-based Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates was tapped in September to design a plan to improve the monument's riverfront park landscape, ease access for pedestrians and expand onto the Illinois riverfront in East St. Louis.
The gondola plan was included in the plan of one of the other finalists.
Organizers look to complete the project by October 2015, the 50th anniversary of the 630-foot-tall arch's completion.
