(KMOV.com) -- Police have identified disabled man who was unable to escape a Cahokia, Illinois home after a fire broke out inside Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the fire broke out in a home in the 1400 block of Cahokia Road around 4:35 a.m.

According to fire officials, when firefighters arrived on the scene, there were flames shooting from all angles of the home.  Firefighters were not able to enter the home for over two hours while they battled the flames.  When firefighters were finally able to get inside, officials said, they found a disabled man who perished in the fire.  Two other people, who live in the residence, were not home when the fire broke out.

Police have identified 49-year-old Walter Daniels as the man who died inside the home.

The home is considered to be a total loss.  Other houses in close proximity to the home were not damaged.

Officials said it is still too early to determine what caused the fire.
