BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV) -- A new trend in crime called “car hopping” has struck the Brentwood area by storm, hitting nearly 23 cars.
“Car hopping” is the act of going from car to car checking if any are unlocked. The latest events of “car hopping” occurred on the side streets between Manchester and Highway 40 in the early hours before dawn this past Monday.
Police believe this sort of thing is happening in communities all around the area. Officers believe the criminals are mostly juveniles trying to hit as many cars as possible in the overnight hours, taking money and iPods left in the cars.
