NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A 16-year-old is in custody after police say he shot two teenage girls Wednesday evening in north St. Louis County.
Police said the shooting was reported at 7:30 p.m. Officers responded to the intersection of Balmoral and Shepley for a report of a fight. The 16-year-old suspect told police he was jumped by three people earlier Wednesday evening.
The suspect told authorities that he went to get a shotgun loaded with bird shot and shot two teen girls in the back as they walked along a footpath at Shepley and Pershire.
Police do not yet know if the female victims, ages 15 and 16, were among the three that reportedly jumped the suspect.
Officials described the girls' injuries as minor and non life-threatening. They were taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment.
The teen suspect was arrested and sent to family court.
