Cards stunned, but professional after Game 7 loss

It would have been easy for members of the Cardinals to sulk and hide from the media after last night’s game 7.

Who would want to talk to reporters after such a miserable performance in the most important game of the season?

But the Cardinals did it. Every one of them. Give them credit for that at least. Pete Kozma stood and answered question after question about his misplays at short. Kyle Lohse was available to anyone who wanted to talk to him about his most disappointing start of the season.

Matt Holliday answered every question but one: Did he think Matt Cain hit him on purpose to retaliate for Holliday’s hard slide into Marco Scutaro earlier in the series? Holliday quickly said “I’m not talking about that”. That was the closest I saw any of the Cardinals having an attitude, and Holliday did the right thing there in not turning the HBP into a controversy.

Clearly, this was the low point of an otherwise exciting and successful season for the Cardinals. But they handled themselves afterwards in a totally professional manner, at a time when the last thing a player wants to do is be questioned and second guessed by reporters. Maybe it’s the Mike Matheny influence.
