Starting QB Franklin doubtful to play Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Missouri Football App) -- Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel told the media Monday that starting quarterback junior James Franklin is very doubtful to play Saturday against Kentucky.  Franklin strained his MCL on October 6 against Vanderbilt.

Franklin has already missed two games in 2012 and if he does end up getting ruled “out” for this week’s game against Kentucky, it’ll be his second straight missed start.

The junior from Corinth, Texas has not lived up to expectations so far in the 2012 season.  In 2011, he threw for 21 touchdowns, ran for 15 touchdowns and averaged 220 passing yards a game.  In 2012, he’s only thrown 4 touchdowns, no rushing touchdowns and averages 160 passing yards per game.

Freshman Corbin Berkstresser will once again suit-up and start for the injured Franklin.  Against Alabama, Berkstresser threw for 126 yards with no touchdowns.  He was sacked 3 times against a highly regarded Alabama defense.

Berkstresser, Pinkel and the rest of the Tigers play Kentucky at 11 a.m. for the 101st Homecoming.
