NEW MELLE, Mo. (KMOV) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the New Melle, Missouri area.
Officials say the tornado was an EF1 and made an initial touchdown just south of Foristell Road. It then lifted just east of Highway Z.
The tornado had a four mile track length, it was at least 150 yards wide and the winds were between 86 to 110 miles per hour.
According to the New Melle Fire Department, there’s significant damage on Foristell Road, and there are at least 20 homes damaged in the Auburn Meadow subdivision, says the St. Charles County EMA.
One home in particular suffered tremendous damage. Neighbors say that a couple lived inside the home, but took shelter when they heard sirens and are okay as a result.
