ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Chess grandmasters will play in speeded-up matches and even blindfolded for Cardinals fans in St. Louis.
Friday's Chess "Knight" at the Ballpark comes as the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis plays host to the 2011 U.S. Championship and the U.S. Women's Championship for the third straight year.
The championship events started last week with exhibition matches and will continue through April 27. There are guaranteed prize funds of at least $170,000 for the U.S. Championship and $60,000 for the U.S. Women's Championship.
The U.S. Championship features 16 competitors, and the Women's Championship has eight.
