(KMOV) -- Firefighters from Rock Community Fire Protection District and several other departments continue to battle a massive mulch fire in unincorporated Jefferson County near Arnold.

The fire started around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the rock quarry on Highway 141 and Cecos Lane, about a mile-and-a-half west of Interstate 55.

Ron Harder, spokesperson for the Rock Community Fire Protection District, says it appears to be several hundred thousand pounds of tightly compacted mulch burning.

There is no threat of the fire spreading to other buildings or property.

Crews are shuttling water from the Meramec River to the remote area to contain the blaze.

The fire has been under control since early Monday morning.

There is no word on what started the fire.
