(KMOV) -- A 34-year-old man was charged Friday for driving under the influence and other traffic violations after driving his car into a ditch then falling asleep, officials say.
According to officials, a deputy was on routine patrol when he found Paul Goewey’s vehicle in a ditch off of St. James Road in Moro, Illinois.
The deputy spotted open alcohol in the vehicle and had enough evidence to believe Goewey was under the influence. Goewey was taken to Madison County Jail where he was held pending formal charges.
Goewey also did not have insurance or proper registration on the vehicle. He also has DUI convictions from 1997 and 2003.
