ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A recent surge of thunderstorms in the St. Louis area is the cause of several traffic accidents during Friday's evening rush hour.

A section of eastbound highway 44 was backed up after two tractor trailers spilled fuel onto the interstate. Hazmat crews were called to the scene.
One lane on Westbound 44 at Grand Boulevard was also shut down after an Ameren truck and an SUV collided. No injuries were reported.
Two lanes on Interstate 270 were closed after a semi slammed into the back of a van, causing a four-vehicle pileup.
The driver of the van was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital.
Investigators said the driver of the semi truck did not see that traffic was backed up.
