(KMOV.com) -- On Tuesday, businesses, schools and other establishments throughout the Midwest will participate in the Great Central U.S. Shakeout earthquake preparedness drill.
The drill will take place at 10:15 a.m. It is being held in an effort to prepare and inform the public about what to do in an emergency earthquake situation.
Tuesday is also the 200th anniversary of the most powerful earthquakes to ever shake United States. It was believed the Great New Madrid was felt strongly over an estimated 50,000 square miles. There were also reports that some sections of the Mississippi ran backward for a short time.
