(KMOV) – Missouri Highway Patrol officers recommends never leaving one’s vehicle when stopping along the highway with the threat of getting hit, and instead calling motor assist at star-55. Within 24-hours, two accidents occurred on both I-44 and I-55 involving people getting struck by cars, killing one.
On Sunday night, a man was trying to cross Interstate 44 when he was hit by a passing car. Police say he survived the accident and is recovering in an area hospital. The second accident occurred on Interstate 55 Monday afternoon when a man left his truck to pick up an item that fell from his car. He was struck and was killed.
The highway patrol says star-55 is the easiest and safest way to seek help during an emergency.
Star-55 puts the caller in touch with the nearest highway patrol center.
