Teen killed by suspected drunk driver

(KMOV.com) -- Police say a University City teen was killed while riding his bicycle in the 7500 block of Delmar. Samuel Scott, 19, was injured around 11:20 p.m. on Friday, but died of his injuries the next day.

The driver, a 29-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Scott worked as a cook at the Dewey's Pizza in University City. Co-workers described him as respectful and hard working.

Chris White said Scott worked the closing shift on Friday night and left work around 11 p.m. He was struck a few minutes later.

"Young guy, going on his college visits, he just had his whole life ahead of him," said White.

White says Scott recently moved to St. Louis from Kentucky. Co-workers learned of the accident when Scott's brother called the restaurant on Saturday morning.

"He told me that Sam was brain dead at the time and I immediately hit my knees in the middle of the kitchen. Everybody could tell something was wrong," said White.

Scott passed away at the hospital later that afternoon.

The name of the driver has not been released, pending official charges.
