Officer thrown off car in Dave & Buster's parking lot

(KMOV) -- A police officer was injured late Thursday night after he tried to prevent a driver from leaving the parking lot of Dave & Buster's in Maryland Heights.

The driver was able to leave the parking lot and led other officers on a chase on I-70. According to authorities, police were able to stop the vehicle near Lucas and Hunt and West Florissant in Ferguson. The two people in the car were taken into custody.

The uniformed officer was working security for the restaurant and arcade in his off hours when the incident occurred.

According to Police Chief Tom O'Connor, around 11:00 p.m. the officer approached four individuals who had been denied entrance into the restaurant.

The four individuals were underage and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

When the four got into a vehicle, the officer tried to hang onto the vehicle but was thrown off as it sped away.

The driver dropped two women off along I-70 before crashing the vehicle through a fence and onto property that is part of the Emerson Electric complex.

According to O'Connor the driver and passenger were arrested after a foot chase.

The officer who was hurt declined immediate treatment but was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. He is a sergeant and has several years on the police force.
