ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV) – There is a new crime-fighting app for your smartphone which enables the user to send texts, photos, sound and video to police, but one local department won’t endorse it just yet.
The St. Peters Police Department tried the app, named “Crime Push,” but the results were not what they expected.
"When our dispatcher downloaded the app and she entered in a complaint and pressed ‘send,’ it got lost in cyberspace somewhere,” Melissa Doss, St. Peters Police Department official, said. “There's a connection missing and I want residents to know that this is not an app to use yet, to report any type of crime because help will not come to you."
Police say they like the idea of the app and think the app can someday be useful, but for now they think it is not ready for people to rely on. Police also say the best and most efficient way to be reached is to dial 911.
