(KMOV) -- A private contractor doing some work for Ameren Missouri hit and broke a 12-inch gas line early Thursday morning forcing residents from 10 area homes to evacuate.
Authorities said the rupture happened around 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of Vandeventer and Sarpy avenues in St. Louis.
Firefighters checked area businesses and evacuated residents from 10 homes for a little less than two hours.
Ameren shut off power to the grid in a two-block radius while crews worked to repair the leak.
Laclede gas stopped the leak in less than two hours and everyone was able to go back to their homes.
No injuries were reported
