Monumental signing for Tigers

( -- The Mizzou Tigers have yet to play a game in the SEC, but Wednesday they went up 1-0 on the rest of the South Eastern Conference.

When Dorial Green-Beckham said ‘no thanks’ to the rest of the nation and ‘yes’ to the Tiger program, it gave Mizzou a big boost in the credibility department.   Entering its first year in the toughest football conference in the country next year, this is exactly what the program needed.

Kudos to Gary Pinkel and the rest of the Mizzou coaching staff for landing Green-Beckham.  Being touted as the number one recruit in the country you have plenty of options on where you want to go.  For Green-Beckham to choose to play in Columbia, I think it says a lot about the current state of the Tiger program and its future as well.

But just because Missouri landed the toast of this year’s recruiting class, doesn’t mean Mizzou is primed to win a National Championship next year or the year after that.  According to, there are six teams that the Tigers will play next season who have better recruiting classes this year.  Alabama ranks number one, and Florida number three.  With a that said, landing ‘DGB” puts Mizzou on the map in the SEC and alerts future top high school players that Missouri is an intriguing place to spend the next three or four years of their lives.  Ultimately it makes future top recruits say, ‘ Alabama, Georgia, USC, and Notre Dame all want me, but since Green-Beckham chose MU, I might have to check them out as well.’

Again, Mizzou one, SEC zero…as of right now.
