(KMOV.com)- David Childers, of West Frankfort, Illinois, received a two year prison sentence for his role in receiving nearly $1 million in fraudulent refunds from false income tax returns submitted to the Internal Revenue Service between 2008 and 2010.
Childers, 38, and his wife Jessica Childers, 35, were previously charged in August 2011 for Conspiracy to Submit False, Fictitious and Fraudulent Claims to the United States and Receipt of Money Stolen from the U.S.
Both Childers pled guilty to their charged offenses.
Evidence offered in support of the guilty pleas showed Jessica Childers began electronically submitting false income tax returns to the IRS in January 2008, using the names, dates of birth and social security numbers of deceased individuals.
She submitted 572 false returns claiming entitlement to $1,532,184 in refunds. She was sentenced to a nine year imprisonment earlier this year.
Under federal law, both Childers must serve a minimum of 85% of their sentences.
