SAINT LOUIS (KMOV) -- Twenty-six St. Louis County employees, including 20 workers from the Parks Department, will lose their jobs as part of a $4 million budget shortfall.
The lay-offs came as a surprise to some of the workers who were told their jobs were safe in December but only to find out they will be let go a half of a month later.
In addition to the laid-off employees, at least three St. Louis County council members are criticizing County Administrator Charlie Dooley and say the layoffs should have been spread out or could have been avoided. Dooley claims that it should not be a surprise to anyone.
Dooley also states that the three biggest users of general fund revenue are parks, jails and the police and he decided to choose to make the cuts to the lesser of the three evils.
