CAHOKIA, Ill. (AP) -- The head of the Cahokia Veterans of Foreign Wars post says his group will rebuild after a fire destroyed the VFW Hall in the southwestern Illinois community.
The Chief Pontiac Post 1699 VFW Hall was fully engulfed when fire crews responded to the scene Monday afternoon. Firefighters worked to douse the blaze and called in neighboring departments for help.
The roof of the building collapsed, but nobody was injured.
James Reed is the post commander and a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He says they're determined to rebuild. Reed says the VFW has been in Cahokia for a long time and will be there for the people of Cahokia a long time from now.
There's no word on what caused the fire.
