ST. LOUIS -- A series of civil rights demonstrations considered a pivotal point in the fight for equality by blacks in St. Louis will be remembered this week at the Missouri History Museum.

The Forest Park museum commemorates the 1963 protests at Jefferson Bank & Trust Co. with three days of events, starting Wednesday. Civil rights groups successfully lobbied the bank to hire more black employees, but not before widespread arrests of community leaders.

The museum programs include a discussion of historical and contemporary banking practices on Wednesday night and a Friday night session to mark the protests’ 50th anniversary.  Admission is free.
