WENTZVILLE, Mo. -- Four top officers in the Wentzville Fire Department are out of their jobs after a purge by its governing board.
That three senior officers at the Wentzville Fire Protection District placed on leave in May are now gone. A fourth was fired.
The district’s fire chief, Randy Bornhop, resigned, while assistant chief Robb Watkins and the fire inspector were fired. The Wentzville fire marshal, Joe Heitkamp was placed on indefinite unpaid leave.
District fire board members have declined to discuss the departures.
“We have been faced with some very difficult decisions relating to the business of this District. The decisions being made are in the best interest to the stability and future of this District and most importantly with the fiduciary responsibility that we hold to our taxpayers,” said Chairwoman Jennifer Houston.
Applications for the vacant fire chief position are being accepted through Aug. 30.
