( -- Students will head to school for the first day in the Normandy School District Monday since students began transferring. News 4 talked to parents who chose to keep their children in the Normandy District and not transfer out.

One mother was shopping for school supplies and said she chose to stay in the district because she believes in Normandy.

But not every parent has the same faith as more than 1000 students transferred out to the Francis Howell School District or elsewhere since Normandy lost accreditation.

Since those students have to deal with long bus rides, parents who stayed said they feel better about their decision.

“Convenience for me, it’s close to home for one thing,” said another Normandy parent, “I think the community and the school can pull out of it if they try.”

A new superintendent is giving parents reason for new hope in Normandy, but they know it won’t be easy since the transfer students are stressing district finances.

The long climb to get accreditation back starts Monday morning when students return.
