(KMOV.com) -- A weekend shooting involving four shooting victims took place close to two college campuses, Harris Stowe State University and St. Louis University. And with classes for both universities beginning soon, students said the violence frightens them.
Dirrk Van Der Veld moved to St. Louis from Holland to play soccer for SLU and was surprised to hear about the shooting.
“It’s a scary thing to be really close to a shooting,” Van Der Veld said, “I mean I didn’t even know that it happened. It happened this morning and I’m just now finding out.”
Van Der Veld said he was never notified by school officials about a shooting happening just across the street from campus.
Another student, Tyler David, said shootings near campus are always a little scary and sad. Tyler said he feels safe when he stays with a group of people and stays on campus.
“Just doing the right thing,” said Tyler, “Staying on campus and not wandering off campus.”
He says school officials never notified him there was a shooting just across the street from campus.
Police reported the shooting happening near campus around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. A group of police officers heard gun shots while working security at a night club.
Police said four men were shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The 27-year-old suspect turned himself into police.
