Fisher: 'Selfish' Dunbar may not win back starting role

(FootballStL) – Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher on Thursday expressed his disappointment  with linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, who will miss the first four games of the season for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs.

“We known about it for some time and obviously we’ve been dealing with it. First and foremost, we’re very, very disappointed in his choices and his decisions. It’s selfish. It hurts the team, but we see it as an opportunity to learn from a mistake. We discussed it with the entire squad last night, and I think everybody understands the responsibilities that each and every player has as far as taking care of themselves and what you can do, and what you can’t do.”

Fisher then made it clear the starting gig will not be handed to him upon his return. Veteran linebacker Will Witherspoon, who was signed to a one-year deal in July, will start in his stead.

“It would make total sense for us right now to move Will Witherspoon up,’’ Fisher said. “We’re glad he’s here; he’s started a lot of games. Then, we’ll make a decision when Jo-Lonn comes back as to who’s going to take that position.’’
