JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Supreme Court says that St. Charles County is not entitled to a refund of taxes from the county-operated Family Arena.
St. Charles County owns and operates the arena, and employs the staff. The county had collected taxes on fees, charges and sales at Family Arena for several years and sought a refund of about $923,000 plus interest for a three-year period.
The court ruled Tuesday the county did not qualify for tax exemptions because it does not receive or benefit from “all the proceeds” from the Family Arena. Therefore, the county was not entitled to a refund.
