(KMOV) – A suspect is in custody after he threatened a St. Charles County school resource officer before leading police on a chase into St. Louis County.
Authorities said the suspect’s ex-wife warned the school resource officer at Frances Howell Union that he might try to visit her Tuesday morning.
Police said when the suspect showed up to the school in the 1400 block of Highway D, around 9:30 a.m., the officer and him got into a verbal altercation.
Authorities said the suspect then got into 2007 white Chevy Trailblazer and fled the scene.
Police began looking for the man, who they believed was in the area of Frances Howell Middle School. SWAT units arrived to the middle school and swept the campus before determining it was safe.
St. Louis County police officers spotted his SUV in Chesterfield around 10:30 a.m. and took him into custody.
Eight buildings - including four schools - in the Frances Howell School District and Messiah Lutheran were placed on lockdown for a short time as a precaution. The lockdowns have since been lifted and police said all the students were deemed safe.
O’Fallon Rd. was also closed while police searched the area.
