Madison County officials continue investigation of fatal crash

(KMOV) – The investigation continues into a two-car collision that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old Alton man on July 20.

The Madison County Coroner’s Office reports Charles L. Bickett, 78, was driving a Ford Taurus when he was struck by another vehicle while attempting to turn left from Frank’s Restaurant onto westbound Route 140 in Alton.

Richard K. Warmack, the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 140 when he struck into the driver’s side of Bickett’s vehicle.

Bickett was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 p.m. by a Madison County Coroner’s Investigator.  He died as the result of blunt chest trauma police said.

According to authorities, Bickett was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A passenger in Bickett’s vehicle not identified as it is unknown if his next of kin has been notified of the incident.

Routine toxicology testing for alcohol and drugs is pending.

The Illinois State Police continue their investigation of the crash.
