(FootballStL) -- He’s been called “Greg the Leg”, “Legatron, and “Young GZ”. Whatever you want to call Rams place kicker Greg Zuerlein, he’s already one of the best long distance kickers in the NFL.
When the Rams take on the Green Bay Packers on Saturday at the Edward Jones Dome, Zuerlein looks to improve on an impressive rookie season from a year ago.
Zuerlein became the first player to make two kicks of 58 yards or longer in a single game, when he drilled 58 and 60 yarders against Arizona. After a hot start in which he nailed his first 15 kicks, Zuerlein slumped in the second half of the season.
Zuerlein missed half of his final 16 attempts, and wound up with the thirrd worst conversion rate among first year kickers. The Rams told Zuerlein to take the entire summer off . Zuerlein did not kick during that time, and was able to regain his leg strength.
Coach Fisher said that Zuerlein may have lost some steam in the second half, because of a busy spring of constantly kicking field goals during the NFL draft process.
Now Zuerlein looks strong once again, after drilling two field goals in the Rams preseason loss to Cleveland last Thursday. Zuerlin converted on kicks of 54 and 55 yards in the game.
Last season, Zuerlin made seven of 13 kicks from 50 yards or more. Whether he’s “Greg the Leg” or “ Legatron”, Greg Zuerlein’s booming field goals will be clear for take-off on Saturday against the Packers.
