(KMOV.com) – The Blanchette Bridge project is very close to being finished.
A ribbon cutting was held Friday to commemorate the near completion.
"No more detours, that's what I'm looking forward to!" said motorist Barbara Svoboda.
Despite the ceremony, the traffic on the bridge was down to two lanes in each direction Saturday. Further closures on and around the bridge will be taking place this upcoming week so the construction company can finish ahead of schedule.
"Through their planning and their process the contractor came up with innovative and creative ways to get the project done ahead of schedule,” MODOT engineer Tom Evers said.
Some lanes and all exits and entrance ramps at the Route 141 exit will be closed overnight on Wednesday and Thursday. MODOT hopes the westbound span will open Friday Aug. 16.
