(KMOV.com) -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a motor home ran off the road and got wedged under a bridge in Webster Groves.

The accident happened just after 1 p.m. on Saturday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 44 at Edgar Road.  According to authorities, the RV hit a guard rail and went up a small embankment before smashing into a bridge.

Two people were rescued from the wreckage and transported to an area hospital.  Arch helicopter was dispatched to the scene to transport one victim.  The other person was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.  No word on the seriousness of their injuries or conditions.

Webster Groves police shut down the interstate so crews could pry the motor home out from under the bridge.  Initially, police shut down all westbound lanes of I-44, but all lanes are now open after it took crews nearly 7 hours to clean up the scene.

No other vehicles were involved.
