Washington Park police officers refuse calls, don't show up after not receiving timely pay

(KMOV) — Washington Park, Illinois police officers are not showing up for work after not receiving paychecks on time, leaving the department only 50 percent staffed.

According to the police chief, the officers received their paychecks four weeks late because of the state’s longstanding issue with meeting payroll.
This is creating big safety concerns as the officers do not want to come to work or answer calls to not be compensated, causing personal financial issues for the un-paid officers.
The political issue among city leaders and the deputy police chief, a dispute on the hiring practices. The deputy police chief has been hired and fired multiple times due to the dispute.
One city official insists the deputy police chief was not hired according to protocol and the department made an error in judgment.
The police chief says that is simply not the case saying that the chief and the residents have had enough.
