Yes, there's a debt crisis but Congress has a baseball game tonight

I was calling Missouri and Illinois lawmakers Thursday morning to see if they're feeling the heat we're noticing on social media from people frustrated by the lack of progress on the debt ceiling crisis.

I talked to Congressman Russ Carnahan's press secretary to try to get a phone interview with the Congressman and he told me "he had a couple of meetings this morning and baseball practice."

Baseball practice?  Turns out there's a game tonight.  Democrats versus Republicans at Nationals Park.

Carnahan plays outfield and wears a Cardinals jersey.  Cool!

The event is a fundraiser for some DC charities.  It's been going on for 50 years.  Here's more on that: www.sgma.com/calendar/107_50th-Annual-Congressional-Baseball-Game

Some in our newsroom are wondering if this baseball game should even be played this year.  Perhaps just donate some money to the charitable causes and keep working to solve the debt ceiling crisis rather than "play ball."

What do you think?
