(KMOV) – Thousands of Illinois child care centers are still waiting on their June paychecks from the state, and they’re just the latest group to suffer in the Illinois budget crisis.
Right now, Illinois has close to $4 billion in unpaid bills, but Springfield has found money for child care businesses that serve low-income families.
For some of these businesses, the money will not come a moment too soon.
Angie Narup in Marissa, Illinois will be able to pay her mortgage and keep her daycare business in business.
The money that the child care centers will receive is vital to people like Narup, who cater to low-income working families.
The Illinois budget still shows little signs of improving. And already the state has told Narup not to count on next month’s payment to be on time.
