Jury to begin hearing evidence in Clemens trial

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A female-dominated jury is in place to begin hearing the evidence of whether baseball's Roger Clemens lied about using performance-enhancing drugs.

The newly seated jury of 10 women and two men is scheduled to get to work Wednesday with opening arguments. Prosecutors say Clemens lied under oath three years ago when he denied using steroids and human growth hormone during congressional testimony. Clemens maintains that he didn't use drugs during a 24-season career that set several pitching records.

Clemens' attorney said he will begin by questioning if the House of Representatives' investigation into whether he used drugs was a proper legislative inquiry. They argue it was not since it didn't concern any legislation and aired a personal dispute between the baseball star and the trainer who accused him.
