Correction: Woman died from heat-related death on June 7.  It was previously reported as happening on July 7.

(KMOV) -- A 52-year-old female has been confirmed as St. Louis City’s first heat-related death this year according to St. Louis Department of Health.

The woman was found unresponsive in her home in the 4100 block of Iowa on June 7. A thermostat in the house read 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The air conditioner inside the home was reported to be in working order but was not turned on.

City officials urge neighbors to check on neighbors to see if their home’s air conditioning is on and is working properly.

Residents who do not have an air conditioner or need energy assistance should call the United Way at 1-800-427-4626 or at 211 from a land line.
