Collinsville considers saggy pants ban tonight

Too many "pants on the ground" have led a councilmember in Collinsville to take a stand.

Liz Dalton says she's heard from constituents who're tired of seeing young people walking around with their pants sagging and underwear showing.

She now wants to ban the fasion faux pas.  The city council could vote on her proposed ordinance Monday night.

If it passes, Collinsville would become the first Metro East community to make this sort of fashion statement illegal.

I told Dalton most people would agree that's a terrible look, but I asked her if we should be legislating such matters.

She said, "I would say 'no' we shouldn't be but on the other hand, I was in merchandizing for 34 years and am very much for the fashion trends, but there is good fashion and then there is tasteless fashion."

Right now, Dalton is one of two councilmembers in favor of the ban.  Two are dead set against it.  One is still undecided.
