(KMOV)-- A typo means that the city of Belleville will have to give refunds to hundreds of residents who violated the new wheel tax.
Nearly 400 drivers who paid a $20 penalty to get their wheel tax sticker after July 1st's deadline are now waiting to get their cash back.
But a city ordinance meant to impose fines after that deadline contained a mistake: it sets September 1st for the penalties, instead of July 1st.
The mix-up will only help Belleville residents who already have their stickers.
If you don't have a sticker yet, you're still in violation of the law. Police have written 16 of those $100 tickets so far and plan to write more.
