IDOT announces new lane restrictions on area roadways

(KMOV.com) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation has released the latest updates on lane closures and restrictions in the area for the week of July 11th, 2011.

MADISON COUNTY

I-55 Lane closures will occur on northbound Interstate 55 from the I-270 / I-70 interchange at Troy to Fruit Road near Hamel. These lane closures will be necessary to resurface the pavement.  Work begins on Sunday, July 10, 2011 and should be completed by July 30, 2011.  At least one of the two lanes will remain open at all times. 


I-55 The right southbound lane will be closed on I-55 from the Macoupin County Line (mile marker 39) near Staunton to Alhambra Road (mile marker 35), near Livingston.  The right northbound lane will also be closed at the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge (mile marker 37).  These lane closures are necessary to repair various bridges within the area.  Work should be completed by July 31, 2011.


I-55 Lane restrictions will be encountered along both northbound and southbound I-55 between mile markers 20 and 32.  Lane closures will be utilized to completely rehabilitate the existing interstate pavement.  No lane closures will take place during the peak hours of 6 AM and 9 AM southbound or between 3 PM and 6 PM northbound.  This work is estimated to be completed by December, 2011.


I-55 Lane restrictions will be encountered along both northbound and southbound I-55 between mile markers 33 and 40.  Lane closures will be utilized to repair the damaged pavement, place new asphalt surface, and various bridge resurfacing.  No lane closures will take place during the peak hours of 6 AM and 9 AM southbound or between 3 PM and 6 PM northbound.  Work is estimated to be completed by late Fall, 2011. 


I-55/70 Rehabilitation of the interchange of I-55/70 and IL Rte. 162 near Troy. The project will be utilized for the removal of the existing bridge at the interchange, construction of a new bridge, and a single-point interchange to increase the fluid movement of traffic through this area.  In addition, the existing frontage roads will be relocated, new traffic signals will be added, and the installation of new lighting will accommodate the entire interchange reconstruction project.  Intermittent lane restrictions will be encountered on both I-55/70 and on IL Rte. 162 during construction.  Work on the project is estimated to be completed by late summer, 2012. 

 

I-270 One lane in the east and westbound lanes of I-270 at the Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge will be closed between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM Sunday through Thursday evenings.  These overnight lane closures are required to make minor repairs to the bridge.  Work is expected to be completed by July 22 2011. 


U.S. 67/267 The speed limit is reduced to 45 mpg. along U.S. 67 from Delhi to Godfrey.  This reduction is necessary to assure the safety of the workers and traveling public during construction of the new 4-lane divided rural expressway and will remain in place until Fall 2012.  Additionally, intermittent lane restrictions may be encountered throughout the project limits.  Two-way traffic will be maintained by flaggers.


IL 159 Lane closures will be utilized on IL 159 from north of South Morrison Avenue to north of Church Street in Collinsville to widen and resurface the existing roadway.  Two-way traffic will be maintained using flaggers and traffic control devices.  Work is estimated to be completed by the Fall of 2012.


IL 162 Rehabilitation of the interchange of I-55/70 and IL Rte. 162 near Troy.  The project consists of the removal of the existing bridge at the interchange, construction of a new bridge, and a single-point interchange to increase the fluid movement of traffic through this area.  In addition, the existing frontage roads will be relocated, new traffic signals will be added, and the installation of new lighting will accommodate the entire interchange reconstruction project.  Intermittent lane restrictions will be encountered on both IL 162 and on I-55/70 during construction.  Work on the project is estimated to be completed by mid-summer, 2012.


Beltline Rd. There will be lane closures on Beltline Road in Collinsville.  These closures are necessary to construct 4 foot asphalt shoulders and warning strips along both sides of Beltline Road.  In addition, a warning strip will also be constructed on the roadway centerline between the east and westbound lanes.  It is estimated that these project activities will be completed by July 29, 2011.


ST. CLAIR COUNTY

I-64 Lane restrictions will be encountered along northbound and southbound IL 159 from Ludwig Drive to Market Place Drive in Fairview Heights.  In addition, the ramp lanes at the IL 159 and I-64 interchange will be narrowed to allow the pavement to be patched.  This work is related to a larger project which includes widening the bridge carrying IL 159 over I-64, constructing a new entrance ramp from southbound IL 159 to eastbound I-64, and resurfacing.  The project is expected to be completed by November 30, 2011.  In addition, lane closures will occur on eastbound and westbound I-64 for widening the bridge and constructing the new ramp.


I-64 The entrance ramp from 25th Street onto eastbound I-64 will be closed to all traffic.  In addition, the two eastbound I-64 lanes will be changed in order to move to stage 2 construction.  One of the two eastbound lanes will be the median (left) eastbound lane and the other eastbound lane will utilize the newly constructed cross-over using a westbound lane as an eastbound lane.  Westbound lanes and the eastbound lane will be separated by temporary concrete barrier.  These traffic changes are necessary in order to replace the bridge deck carrying I-64 over the MetroLink Railroad.  These lane modifications will be in effect until late Summer, 2011.  In addition, the contractor may periodically close an additional lane in each direction between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. during off peak hours.


I-64 Lane restrictions may be encountered along eastbound and westbound I-64 between Baugh Avenue and 37th Street in East St. Louis.  I-64 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction in order to replace the bridge deck carrying I-64 over the MetroLink Railroad.  These lane restrictions will be in effect until Summer, 2012.  In addition, the contractor may periodically close an additional lane in each direction between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. during off-peak hours.


U.S. 50 There will be lane closures on Old U.S. 50  from U.S. 50 near Summerfield to just west of Carlyle.  These lane closures are necessary to replace pavement, widen pavement, resurface, and perform guardrail improvements.  It is estimated that these project activities will be completed by July 31, 2011. 


I-255 Intermittent lane closures will be encountered on northbound and southbound I-255 over Black Lane and over Harding Ditch (Mile Post 22 to 23).  The lane closures are necessary to make bridge deck and joint repairs on these two bridges.  These lane restrictions will be in effect until early summer, 2011.


IL 13/15 Construction will begin on IL 13/15 on Monday, July 11, 2011.  Lane closures will be utilized to construct intersection improvements.   Work is estimated to be completed by the fall of 2011.

Exchange Av Both directions of Exchange Avenue in East St. Louis from 9th Street to 7th Street, the westbound exit ramp from I-55/70 to Exchange Avenue, and the eastbound entrance ramp from Exchange Avenue to I-55/70 will all be closed.  This closure is necessary to remove and reconstruct the bridge carrying Exchange Avenue over I-55/70.  All traffic will be detoured around this area using 1st Street, St. Clair Avenue, and 9th/10th Street.  Work is expected to be completed by October of 2011.


Lincoln Lane closures will be encountered on Lincoln Trail / St. Clair Avenue from east of
Trail IL 159 in Fairview Heights to 33rd Street in East St. Louis, weather permitting.  The lane closures are needed to repair the pavement, repair the curb and gutter, and resurface the existing roadway.  Lane closures from IL 159 to Ruby Lane will only be allowed at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. the following morning.  This work is estimated to be completed by late fall, 2011.


North Belt Lane restrictions will be encountered on North Belt West between IL 13 and IL
West 161 in Belleville.  Work will consist of patching, resurfacing, and median removal on both the west and the eastbound lanes.  The project should continue through to the summer of 2011. 


15th St. 15th Street is closed to vehicular traffic from St. Clair Avenue to Baugh Avenue in East St. Louis.  This closure is necessary to remove and reconstruct the bridge carrying 15th Street over I-64.  All traffic will be detoured around this area using St. Clair Avenue, 18th Street, Baugh Avenue, and 9th Street.  Work is expected to be completed by November, 2011.


BOND COUNTY

I-70 Intermittent moving daytime lane closures will be encountered on eastbound and westbound Interstate 70, one mile west of Millersburg Road to the Fayette County line.  These lane closures are necessary to apply new pavement markings.  Work should be completed by August 31, 2011.


CLINTON COUNTY

Old U.S. 50 There will be street closures adjacent to Old U.S. 50 from west of Pine Street to east of Walnut Street in Breese..  These closures are necessary so that the old deteriorating pavement on Old U.S. 50 can be replaced where necessary.  It is estimated that these project activities will be completed by July 31, 2011. 


Old U.S. 50 There will be lane closures on Old U.S. 50  from U.S. 50 near Summerfield to just west of Carlyle.  These lane closures are necessary to replace pavement, widen pavement, resurface, and perform guardrail improvements.  It is estimated that these project activities will be completed by July 31, 2011.


IL 127 Lane closures will occur on IL 127 from the Washington County Line to U.S. 50 in Carlyle.  These lane closures will be necessary to complete pavement patching and resurfacing and guardrail improvements.  Work should be completed by November 9, 2011.  At least one of the two lanes will remain open at all times.


MONROE COUNTY

IL 158 The bridge carrying Illinois Route 158 over Illinois Route 3 at Columbia will be reduced to one lane.  Traffic signals will be in place to direct motorists.  This bridge lane closure is required to allow the contractor to replace the bridge in stages.  When the first stage is complete, traffic will be opened back to 2 lanes while the remainder of the bridge is replaced.  All work should be completed by December 31, 2011. 


RANDOLPH COUNTY

IL 4 The bridge carrying IL 4 over Plum Creek near Sparta will be reduced to one lane.  This bridge lane closure is required to allow the contractor to replace the bridge in stages.  All work should be completed by August 31, 2011.
