ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Two cases of animal abuse are being investigated by Stray Rescue and animal control officers.
After one dog was found dead Saturday in south St. Louis City, officials say they are cracking down on animal abuse and neglect.
Officers also found another dog with severe bug bites to its ears and no food or water. The owner allegedly kept the animal outside in the heat on a two-foot-long chain without any shelter. By law, dog owners are required to keep their pet on a chain that is at least15-feet long.
Animal control and Stray Rescue officials say the owner in each case could face jail time, community service and a minimum fine of $100.
The dog was seized from its owner and is undergoing medical treatment. It will soon be placed for adoption.
