(KMOV) -- With the end of the 2012 school year, it's the end of the line for five of East St. Louis' ten elementary schools.
The district announced several months ago closings were necessary because of "declining enrollment and the need to stabilize attendance and staffing."
To help families deal with the changes, Superintendent Arthur Culver and other administrators will meet with parents at each school that's closing this Tuesday and Thursday.
A.M. Jackson Academy - 4:30pm Tuesday, May 22nd
Brown Elementary - 6:00pm Tuesday, May 22nd
Alta Sita Elementary - 7:30pm Tuesday, May 22th
Lilly Freeman Elementary - 4:30pm Thursday, May 24th
Miles Davis Elementary - 6:00pm Thursday, May 24th
"We have been planning carefully for a smooth transition in closing these schools and for providing more rigorous educational opportunities for our students," Culver said in a prepared statement.
Parents who can't go to the meetings are invited to email the superintendent at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
