Police respond to minor car crash, find body inside

(KMOV.com) -- On Friday morning, some called police to report a minor crash in an alley behind their home, but when police arrived, they found that the person inside the car had been shot to death.

Police said the call came in around 12:15 a.m. in the north St. Louis neighborhood of Walnut Park East.  The caller reported that a car had hit a fence in an alley near their home in the 5400 block of Beacon Avenue.  When police arrived on the scene they discovered what started as a minor crash report had turned in to a homicide investigation.

Authorities said they found a 19-year-old male in the vehicle who had been shot in the head.  The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

The vehicle the victim was driving is described as a dark-colored, older model Ford Mustang.  Investigators did not say where they believe the shooting took place.

Officials expect to release more information later on Friday as the investigation continues.

Anyone who has further information about the shooting is asked to call police.
