ALTON, Illinois (KMOV) -- Police have charged a suspect with shooting a man to death during a house party in Alton on Wednesday.

Christoper R. Stewart, 20, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after he allegedly shot the victim in a garage in the 800 block of Brown Street around 1:40 a.m.

Alton police received a 911 call and responded to the garage to find Carlos C. Reeves, 24, with shot-wounds to the head and shoulder.  Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives investigated and found that Stewart lived in Alton and took him into custody.  The investigation revealed that Stewart and Reeves previously knew each other and had been involved in some disputes that eventually led to the shooting.

If found guilty, Stewart faces 20 to 60 years in prison.

He is currently in custody in Alton, but will be taken to the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville. His bond was set at $1 million.
