ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A teenager in north St. Louis suffered an injury to his hand after being shot at by police during a chase
early Wednesday morning.
Police said the incident happened in the 4100 block of Labadie near Whittier around 12:30 a.m.
According to police, an officer was patroling a high crime area when he noticed a 17-year-old walking along the street. The officer attempted to talk to the teen, but he ran away and the officer gave chase.
During the chase, the pursuing officer said he saw a gun in the suspect's hand. A short time later, the suspect dropped the gun. After falling, the suspect picked up the gun and pointed it at the officer. The officer drew his weapon and fired one shot, but did not hit the suspect.
The teenager injured his hand in the fall and was taken to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.
Police arrested him and say he will be charged with pointing a gun at an officer.
The officer has been put on administrative leave for a few days, which is routine after firing a weapon at someone.
