O'FALLON, Mo. (KMOV) -- Illegal trash dumping is causing a headache for officials in O'Fallon, Missouri.

The city has blue recycling containers as part of a free service, but some residents are taking advantage of it by throwing non-recyclable items on top of the containers.

"The biggest problem is just appearance," Tom Drabelle, City of O'Fallon spokesman, said.  "It really is just an appearance issue.  We don't want trash outside the dumpsters.  We don't want anything affecting the impact, the look of the businesses in the area."

Local businesses are concerned about the problem as well and the city is considering installing cameras near the containers.
