(KMOV.com) -- A 54-year-old man is dead after he was stabbed by his girlfriend at an apartment complex in midtown St. Louis Sunday evening, police said.

Authorities reported that Sedwick Terrall and a 55-year-old woman, who police said was his girlfriend, got in to some sort of altercation.  The woman stabbed Terrall during the argument.

Emergency crews responded to the apartment building and found Terrall unresponsive.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female suspect was taken into custody by responding officers.

The stabbing happened at the Council Tower Senior Apartments in the 300 block of South Grand around 7 p.m.  The complex is just east of the old Del Taco building and near the St. Louis University Campus.  The apartment building is fairly well-known because of its intricate brickwork which can be seen by drivers heading west on Highway 40/Interstate 64 from the downtown area.
