(KMOV.com) -- Traffic heading into downtown St. Louis from the Metro-East has been rough for drivers, with construction work closing all but one lane of westbound I-64 most weekdays until 8 pm.
Extra traffic for Cardinals games has added to delays on the Poplar Street Bridge, while alternative routes like the Eads and Martin Luther King bridges are still not popular choices for drivers.
MODOT officials say a roadwork contract allows for the extra lane closures. Drivers will likely face construction delays until the resurfacing project is completed later this summer.
MODOT's downtown engineer says they are avoiding complete closures of I-64 during Cardinals game weekends and other events in the city.
